~ Book Description ~
Lanie Heron isn’t looking for love — no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club...
For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She’s too polished and too classy for his tastes. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can’t say no. And he doesn’t regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that’s ever happened to him — in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.
~ Review ~
First of all, before you grab this book (and I really hope you will), you should definitely at least read Motorcycle Man and Own the Wind. It's a must! Of course, I'd recommend you start with the beginning of the "Dream Man" series and go from there, but then again if you decide to do it, you should read "Rock Chick" series before that (I haven't - learn from my mistake), so... It's like that when it comes to KA. Still, whatever you do, do not miss Tack! Trust me, you'll love the badass, biker guy!
I have to admit this - while I was reading Motorcycle Man, I kinda thought Lanie was... annoying. I get that she's loyal, and devoted, and I came to admire her for sticking to her (bad) choices, and (foolishly) not giving up on love, but... My first impression was just - annoying.
Hop, on the other hand, was another Chaos badass dude - until he became the cheating Chaos badass dude. Not good, ladies!! Cheaters are definitely not my favorite kind.
So, once I found out this is Lanie and Hop's story, I wasn't really sure I'll be able to get over that. But, I know KA can write one hell of a story, so best case scenario - I'll end up adoring these two. Worst case scenario? I'll end up reading about an annoying drama queen and a cheater! So glad this turned out to be a happy ending - in every possible way.
“Wanna fuck?”
That's basically how this story begins. Eight years after her fiance got himself killed (and almost got her and Tyra killed as well), Lanie is still feeling guilty and refusing to move on. She's alone, has no intention of changing that, and only wants one night... with Hop. One night that shouldn't change anything, but is about to complicate the hell out of things, and change everything in a matter of hours. Well, I guess you know how that goes...
"I’d give him one thing. I’d give him a million things. I’d give him anything.
I knew that in my bones.
That wasn’t about great sex.
That was about him tucking the covers around me before he turned out the lights.
I didn’t tell him that.
I didn’t say anything.
Hop didn’t need me to.
Fire Inside is a great story about love, family, demons, and beauty of life. It's what we expect to find when we grab a KA book... and not.
Hop is a typical KA hero - hot, badass, (jewelry wearing) tattooed biker, free & wild all the way. I loved him from page one here, and really hoped KA will find a way to make me forgive him for cheating his (ex) old lady, because seriously Hop is delicious. The way he kept calling Lanie Lady is so cute. And, it sounds way better than babe (not that I had a problem with that. Like, ever!).
Lanie, on the other hand, is not all tits & ass & sass. She's tall, skinny, all class, and more than messed up. After being used as a shield by her fiance, Lanie needs a guy who'll be her shield, and help her slay the monster that's inside of her.
Actually, Fire Inside is all about Hop and Lanie. There's no usual action that we expect in every KA book. No one is kidnapped, no one is shot, no "oh shit" moment in here. And, as the story is happening at the same time as "Own the Wind", there's no suspense near the end. I believe we'll get all the missing suspense (and more) at the end of the series (won't that be one hell of a grand finale?), so until then we get to enjoy the somewhat subdued love stories.
And, although there's a lot of usual stuff missing, drama is definitely not.
“You’ll never know,” he replied, turned, slid the door to and walked away.
Lanie walks away. Hop walks away. Lanie walks away. They love each other. They want to be together. But, they are, then they're not, then they are... It's kinda amazing how Lanie can break my heart at one point, and make me want to strangle her with all the drama queen attitude just seconds later. Amazing! Of course, Hop had his moments as well - no surprise there. They both have demons, and they both have reasons for behaving the way they do, for being careful, and refusing to let things go.Still, once they solved all the issues, I was too happy to complain about anything. Really. I just enjoyed the show, enjoyed the music, and swooned a lot.
Overall, Fire Inside is yet another KA book that you shouldn't miss if you love her style, her characters, or if you're looking for a new fictional boyfriend for your collection (like me). It's a great way to spend a day - you'll laugh, sigh and love. A lot. Because, life is all about second chances, and finding someone who'll accomp'ny you, after all. Right?
“Every step, every breath, every second I lived on this earth, I’m thankful for, no matter how fucked up or whacked or hard or good, ’cause all that shit led me to you.”
