Gail MacMillan ~ "Holding Off for a Hero"

Jumping into a freezing lake in order to save a drowning three-year-old is a no-brainer, right? That's exactly what Frasier MacKenzie thought... until he realized he's saving a three-year-old pug. He may not be aware of it yet, but his life is about to change – and, it won't be because of the dog. Well... not entirely.

Frasier is an associate professor of biology, working on a research project. His job is very important, and the last thing he needs is a distraction. Especially if that distraction is Emma Prescott – the proud owner of Bruiser. Yes, the poor thing is named after the chihuahua from "Legally Blonde".

Emma ended up renting a cabin at Loon Lake after a fire damaged her apartment. She is working as a high school guidance counselor, and has a thing or two to say about unnecessary research projects, exactly like the one Frasier is working on. It's kind of obvious they did not exactly pledge undying love on the spot, right? Still, what you see is not always what you get.

So, what do you get when you mix these two, a pug, a German Shepherd, a lot of jinx and a mystery? Amazingly good book, that's what! "Holding Off for a Hero" is an incredibly entertaining read. The characters are great, the chemistry is there from the start, and even though they are doing their best to ignore it, they will fail miserably. There are a lot of witty moments, and just the way Emma is getting under Frasier's skin, against his will of course, is enough to make this book worth reading.

What am I trying to say? I love this little adventure! It's sweet, but it won't give you toothache. There's suspense, but it's not overshadowing the romance. There are quite a few surprises along the way. You'll keep guessing what's going on and keep hoping Frasier and Emma will get their happy ending. It's one light, wonderful read I gladly recommend.
